ABBA knew that “Dancing Queen” would be a hit and that’s why they hadn’t released it as a single until the album was released. When Benny Andersson first played Anni-Frid Lyngstad the song’s backing track, she started to cry. She said in an interview to The Guardian, “And that was before me and Agnetha had even sung on it! I knew it was absolutely the best song ABBA had ever done.”
About This Song
ABBA performed this song as part of a televised tribute to Queen Silvia and King Gustaf XVI of Sweden on June 18, 1976, just before the royal couple’s wedding.
This track marked ABBA’s sole number-one hit in the USA, out of their fourteen Top-40 hits there. It also reached the top spot in Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Rhodesia, South Africa, Sweden, and West Germany.
In 1995, “Dancing Queen” became the first song to be assigned the International Standard Musical Work Code, identified as T-000.000.001-0. Additionally, it holds the 174th position on Rolling Stone’s list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time, making it the sole ABBA track to achieve this distinction.

Lyric
🎵 Let’s sing along with the lyrics! 🎤
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the dancing queenFriday night and the lights are low
Looking out for the place to go
Where they play the right music, getting in the swing
You come in to look for a kingAnybody could be that guy
Night is young and the music s high
With a bit of rock music, everything is fine
You re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance…You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the dancing queenYou re a teaser, you turn them on
Leave them burning and then you re gone
Looking out for another, anyone will do
You re in the mood for a dance
And when you get the chance…You are the dancing queen, young and sweet, only seventeen
Dancing queen, feel the beat from the tambourine
You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your life
See that girl, watch that scene, digging the dancing queen
Digging the dancing queen . .
