• Initially a request from Franco Zeffirelli for an instrumental theme, this track led Lionel Richie to utilize some previously unreleased concepts he had penned for The Commodores, which had never been recorded. Upon Zeffirelli’s insistence, lyrics were added, and he wanted it to be performed as a duet.
• Featured in the 1981 film “Endless Love” starring Brooke Shields, this song became synonymous with the movie’s romantic theme.
• Notably, Lionel Richie’s debut single, “Truly,” also embraced the theme of eternal love, evident in the lyric “This love will last forever.”
• Garnering five Grammy Award nominations, as well as recognition from the Academy Awards and Golden Globe, the song further earned a Marquee Award in 1982 for “Best Original Song.”
