About The Song

One of the cherished classics from the golden oldies era comes from the talented Brian Hyland, whose music is often credited with defining the “puppy-love” bubble-gum sound of the early 1960s.

Hailing from Woodhaven in Queens, New York, Hyland displayed a deep passion for music from a young age. He played the clarinet and guitar and sang in his local church choir. At the age of 14, he formed a doo-wop group named the DelFis. Though the group didn’t achieve significant success, Hyland had a taste of the recording studio while working on their demo, an experience he thoroughly enjoyed. He honed his skills in recording and eventually garnered enough talent to be signed by Kapp Records.

After a few unsuccessful attempts, Hyland struck gold at the age of 16 with the sensational hit “Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini.” This novelty record, penned by Lee Pockriss and Paul Vance (known for hits like “Catch a Falling Star” and “Johnny Angel”), soared to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also made waves internationally, reaching the 8th spot in the U.K. and the 2nd position in Australia. Remarkably, it sold over a million copies within a month and eventually surpassed the two-million mark, earning Hyland an RIAA gold record.

And then came “Sealed with a Kiss”…

In 1962, Hyland, who frequently performed songs by Peter Udell and Gary Geld, discovered their composition “Sealed With A Kiss.” The song had previously been released in England by a group called The Four Voices but had failed to make an impact. Hyland, with his insightful suggestion to pick up the beat, recorded the song, propelling it to the 3rd spot on the Billboard Hot 100. It also achieved significant success, reaching the 3rd position in the U.K. and the 22nd spot in Australia.

Throughout the decades, Hyland remained active in the music industry. During the doo-wop era, he graced shows like American Bandstand and The Jackie Gleason Show. He toured alongside Dick Clark in the Caravan of Stars. Even today, Hyland continues to captivate audiences worldwide with his live performances, often accompanied by his son Bodi on drums.

Lyric

🎵 Let’s sing along with the lyrics! 🎤

Though we gotta say goodbye for the summer
Darling I promise you this
I’ll send you all my love every day in a letter
Sealed with a kiss

Yes it’s gonna be a cold lonely summer
But I’ll fill the emptiness
I’ll send you all my dreams every day in a letter
Sealed with a kiss

I’ll see you in the sunlight
I’ll hear your voice everywhere
I’ll run to tenderly hold you
But darling you won’t be there

I don’t want to say goodbye for the summer
Knowing the love we’ll miss
Oh let us make a pledge to meet in September
And seal it with a kiss

Yes it’s gonna be a cold lonely summer
But I’ll fill the emptiness
I’ll send you all my love every day in a letter
Sealed with a kiss
Sealed with a kiss
Sealed with a kiss
